Health & Safety

At Great Bear, health and safety is a core value that shapes everything we do.

We are committed to protecting the well-being of every person on site—employees, contractors, and suppliers—and ensuring they return home safely and healthy, every single day.

In line with our core value of Putting People First, we are committed to:

  • Embedding safety in every task, decision, and work environment;
  • Demonstrating visible leadership on safety across the site;
  • Recognizing and rewarding safe behaviour;
  • Providing thorough training and ensuring workforce competence;
  • Conducting regular risk assessments with qualified industry experts;
  • Actively measuring, monitoring, and reporting safety performance;
  • Engaging employees in developing systems and programs; and
  • Encouraging a culture of reporting, accountability, and responsiveness.

Safeground: A Culture of Trust, Ownership and Collaboration

Safeground is our global approach to health and safety, empowering every person at Great Bear to learn and contribute to the continuous improvement of our Project.

We believe that an environment built on trust, collaboration and learning results in work that makes it easier for everyone to achieve safe and successful outcomes.

Launched in December 2024, the Safeground philosophy is rooted in six core principles co-created by Kinross teams across the globe. Frontline workers play a pivotal role in this, and their opinions and expertise are valued as critical components in every health and safety initiative.

By aligning around these shared principles, we simplify safe working practices, ensure a “fail safe” environment, and foster a work culture where people feel valued, supported, and safe to speak up.
